The Emerging Artists Series takes place every day of Summerfest. This series highlights up-and-coming local, national and international talent during daily performances that not only showcase great live music, but also engages the audience by having fans vote each day their favorite performance.

We’ve reached out to several of this year’s winners and asked them a few questions about themselves and what it’s like to perform at Summerfest.

This week we hear from Milwaukee based electronic artist LUXI. She has been writing and recording songs since the age of 5 as a way to express herself and process the world around her, slowly developing her sound over time until recently finding her stride in a unique hypnotic dance based electro-pop niche. This year she performed at Summerfest on July 5 at the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage. Thanks LUXI for taking the time to answer some questions about your experience.

Q1) What was it like to play in your hometown at a large music festival like Summerfest?

LUXI: It was so surreal and amazing to get a chance to perform at Summerfest, it's always been one of the biggest local events that I went to with my friends growing up and it was really fun to be a part of it.

Q2) I believe you put together a fun & special solo set for Summerfest. Was there a favorite song that you performed?

LUXI: I always enjoy playing "Smile" from my album Geometric Universe, I had decided to add elements of electric guitar as the new twist which definitely felt great jamming out on stage.

Q3) Do you have a pre-show routine?

LUXI: I try to relax and clear my mind, envision the show going well, and if I've practiced enough I don't get terrible stage fright anymore, it's just like going out there and doing the thing I've been practicing for a long time.

Q4) Did you get a chance to experience the festival outside of your performance?

LUXI: Yes, I stuck around to watch some of the 88.9 DJs and walked the grounds for a while to check out the different performers and vendors.

Q5) Is there a stage you would like to perform at the next time you come back to Summerfest?

LUXI: I would love to open for any of the musicians I'm inspired by, on whichever stage that might be, some examples would be Fever Ray, Banks, Grimes, Bjork, Radiohead, Imogen Heap etc... .

Q6) Finally, is there anything you would like to say to your fans who voted for you at this year’s Emerging Artists Series at Summerfest?

LUXI: Yes, I'd like to tell them thank you so much for taking the time to vote for me and for helping me along in my journey, it means so much to me that my music can reach so many different people.
