What does everyone think about shutting down the ARMY simulator??

DOes any one have any opinion on summerfest asking the army to shut down their simulator??  I personaly have strong feelings about it because of my familys service backround.  I personaly will not be attending summerfest anymore this year out of protest.  some may think that this is extrem but I am personaly sick of people cattering to the minority all of the time.  that is just my feeling what is yours??

While I initially thought that Summerfest overreacted by shutting down the simulator, I now think it probably was a compromise.  The objections to the simulator were silly:  I wouldn't doubt that some of the video games in the arcade quite near the Army booth simulate shooting people as well.  Some of the complainers probably demanded that the Army be kicked out of Summerfest altogether.  However, Summerfest officials had to know that such drastic action was not justified and would lead to a whole new chorus of objections.  They probably tried to take a middle road by telling the Army to shut down the simulator but allowing them to stay on the grounds.  Maybe you're being too hard on Summerfest.  But then, given your family's background, I can understand your strong feelings.

I think its terrible.  It's summerfest bowing down to the vocal very small minority.

Apparently SF caved to Veterans for Peace, a leftist anti-war, anti-military group that felt the display was glorifying war and all things horrible in America, as these groups like to do.  Summerfest will listen to this group, but they are ignoring the calls and emails from people that support what the military was and is doing.  I'm glad I am done with Summerfest for the year after seeing Rush last Friday.  I just hope the State Fair is not going to do something as petty and as anti-military if the Armed Forces are present.

I think the move was moronic. I was there on Sunday, saw the army but did not go in. I did see some items in the bazaar that displayed images of marijuana and guns. That's stuff is okay I guess. I guess inappropiate content in some of the acts is okay too. I'm offended by the expensive beer. What are they going to do about that?

These folks that filed these complaints, if you don't like it here...................GTFO!!!!!!!!

Move to Canada, France, or your socialistic country of your choice!

As for me, I will not be going to Summerfest again until they rectify this situation.

I just heard this morning that summerfest has alowed Army to reopen there simmulator however there is a new program running inside that uses inaniment(Sp?) targets opposed to insergents.  I think that the army handled this good and into days mentality the army always needs to put there best foot forward, however this was a non issue that was blown way out of the water.

Summerfest statement on this is week.  They try to twist it to make them look good.  They say they never asked the army to close the entire exhibit and at like they had nothing to do with it.  Nice try summerfest you bowed down to a liberal leftist group that is in the minority.  You haven't fooled me.

Yes the army handled this well however the powers that be at summerfest want to act like they had very little to do with it and it was just a minor modification.  The army shouldn't have had to change a darn thing.  How about the video games  on the grounds that promote killing what are they doing about those absolutely nothing.  All this is about summerfest bowing down to one activist group.

Since the Army is still on the Summerfest grounds, I think you are sending the wrong message by boycotting Summerfest as a protest.

If the Army were asked to leave, that would be a differentt thing... but for God's sake, it was a stupid video game that caused all the rucus.

what i find ironic in all of this is that there are other video games at summerfest just as bad as the simulator. i love that these old hippies still give a crap but we all have the ability to make choices for ourselves and I chose to walk away its that simple...i think that the army and the other military recruiters at summerfest are in the wrong location... they should go to the north side/central city and show some of those sharpshooters there what they can really do for their country legally and get a paycheck....
