This week’s featured artist debuted in 2013 from the vibrant soul and Bay Area funk scene of San Francisco.  Con Brio’s septet consists of musicians with diverse backgrounds and perfect chemistry, including a magnetic front man (Ziek McCarter) whose powerful vocals and funky dance moves have likened him to Michael Jackson and James Brown.

The Sound:

Con Brio’s sound embodies their name, taken from a musical expression meaning “with spirit.”  Funky, vibrant, jazzy and infused with an upbeat horn section and bluesy guitar riffs, their cheerful soul sound is irresistible.  But, their music brings more than just a good groove.  Their lyrics share a theme of hope, freedom and transcendence beyond a life of political unrest.  They describe their first full length album, Paradise, as a “declaration of independence you can dance to; an assertion of what can happen when the human spirit is truly free.”

Why You Should Go:

PopMatters describes Con Brio as “the best new live band in America,” seemingly due to their electric stage presence, chemistry and the soaring vocals of their back flipping (that’s right!) front man.  Their live performance is pure passion and guaranteed to turn the Miller Lite Oasis into a huge dance party.  See them live on July 3!

If you like Michael Jackson or Sly and the Family Stone, check out Con Brio.
