We all know that the 11 days of Summerfest can offer up some major musical talent. But our headliners aren’t the only ones bringing their skills to the stage. We also (literally) set the stage for some of the most promising up-and-comers to play “The World’s Largest Music Festival,” and they just happen to be 7th through 12th graders.

Enter ROCKONSIN (new name for an old favorite), a statewide competition for 7th – 12th grade musicians of all musical genres. Bands were asked to submit a video of an original or cover song. Twelve talented bands will be chosen to perform 20 minute sets at Summerfest. Six bands will play on Thursday, June 30th and six will play on Friday, July 1 from Noon - 3 pm on the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage.

Music industry professionals will chose the runner up and winner who will then play on at the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse on July 10 from 4-5:45 pm. The winner and runner up will also receive a free professional recording session at Madison's Blast House Studios. Finally, one band representing the punk, rock or metal genre will be chosen to represent ROCKONSIN at the 2016 Vans Warped Tour stop on July 26 at Henry Maier Festival Park.

"The ROCKONSIN bands are the musical minor league system and anyone that takes in their Summerfest stage offerings will not only have a great experience listening to some very young talented garage bands, but will also experience what the future portends," says ROCKONSIN producer Dennis Graham.

Make sure you check out ROCKONSIN during Summerfest 2016 and show your support for the young musical talent coming out of our great state! For more information visit rockonsin.org.
