This week’s featured artist is pop/rock’s bad girl Elle King, who’s debut single “Ex’s and Oh’s” took mainstream radio by storm when it went platinum, broke into the Billboard top 10 and earned her two Grammy nominations.  With the huge success of “Ex’s and Oh’s,” the rest of her latest album Love Stuff has what it takes to keep fans listening for what's next.

The Sound:

Her music is multi-textured; rootsy, bluesy and twangy with a pop infusion that appeals to a mainstream taste.  She artfully wields a banjo (an instrument she took up after she “saw a cute boy” playing one) and her voice has the smoky rasp of a whiskey-soaked soul singer.  What might stand out even more, though, is her songwriting.  Her lyrics are unapologetic, clever and cheeky; revealing a woman who is as vulnerable as she is fearless.

Why You Should Go:

Elle King has a lot of fun on stage and wants her fans to feel like they’re hanging out with a friend.  Combine that hometown feel with her big voice and sassy personality, and you have a roots rock show that feels a little bit rowdy. See her live at Summerfest on July 8!
